Zhiyao (Coco) Song is a sophomore at Baylor School. She is a Chinese student from Shenzhen and currently resides in Shenzhen. This photo is inspired by the song “Blood, Sweat and Tears,” in which the singer thinks about the conflict when people face temptation. The fish inside the photo are the losers of the conflict between people themselves and the temptations; the fish can’t control themselves and eat the bait, but they don’t know that behind the delicious food is the hook and death.

Mohamed Elhassan is a senior at Hammond High School. He is originally from Sudan but currently resides in Maryland. His work mainly incorporates his strong views on animal rights, nature, and climate change in its subtle yet powerful visual metaphors. He has received over 15 awards from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for poetry, visual art, and visual art portfolio. His work has been showcased in numerous other publications such as Parentheses Journal, Waxwing Magazine, and more. Next year he will be attending Stanford University, and continuing his academic and artistic pursuits.

Quoc Bui is currently a junior attending Interlochen Arts Academy. He is from Hanoi, Vietnam, and is invested in the idea of a space entertainer—someone who transforms a space by creating narratives and infusing excitements. Through the use of multiple mediums, he creates sporadic works that activate the space around them. In “Circe” in particular, using foam, paint and yarn to create the figure, he added life to them using light and fan, resulting in an abstract creature from another world.

Maria Paula Cubero Navarro is a senior Visual Arts major at Interlochen Arts Academy. She is from San Jose, Costa Rica. Her artwork has been recognized on the national level by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. 

You Min (Zeina) Lee is a junior attending Suffield Academy in Connecticut. She is a profound visualizer and observant artist talented in the art of observation with an especially color-keen sense. She developed her skills in media art and graphic design by learning traditional art techniques and computer software tools; Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Indesign and so on. She plans to continue pursuing her interests in art to expand on her creativity and perspective. First and foremost, Zeina’s creative acumen shines through in both her artwork and her presence at Suffield. Her participation in Art Special has resulted in successful school-wide art exhibitions each spring for the past two years. Zeina presents her work and ideation in a way that is not only creative but also in a way that enlivens her peers to follow her lead.

Yubin Cho is an eighteen-year-old junior who has been very interested in art since childhood. In particular, she is interested in fashion, so she enjoys trying on various clothes and designing them. Yubin, who has had a dream of becoming a fashion designer from a young age, has also learned a variety of art by attending Yewon Art School in Seoul, Korea. She is interested not only in fashion design, but also in other fields of art, so she wants to try various fields in the future. She plans to continue pursuing her interests in art and writing to expand on her creativity and perspective.

Anika Midha is a junior at Choate Rosemary Hall. She currently resides in Singapore. When it comes to art, she loves to experiment with different mediums. She's hoping to challenge herself as an artist even further by exploring different styles of art.

Abby Amdur is a third year junior at Interlochen Arts Academy. She is from San Francisco, California and currently lives in Carbondale, Colorado. Siyang Lian is a photographer from China, currently studying as a junior at the Hotchkiss School in America. His work captures the daily life of Tibetan Buddhist practitioners and indigenous people in the Tibetan Plateau. In Fall 2020, he created an online exhibition called "Shades Of Us,” where his photography collection focused on portrait collages of local Tibetan youth and young adults from Western countries, signifying their common humanity across cultures. In the future, he hopes to continue using his photography as a gateway for the western world and eastern world to better see the similarities and appreciate the uniqueness.

She uses entertainment design to depict the stage life and personal life of a fictional thrash metal band, aiming to initiate increased tolerance. She received a National Gold Medal in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards during her sophomore year. During her senior year, she received two Regional Gold Portfolio awards in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Next year, she will be attending Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games, and Animation, located in Hollywood, California, to pursue her passion for entertainment arts.

She creates spaces that capture the emotion of a personal moment for the audience to experience. Through her pieces, she advocates for the importance of family in one’s identity.
